Still getting to know you! ~ Graham Kitty and Scruffy Pup
Successfully introducing kittens and adult dogs take patience, baby steps and lots of time. Yesterday with Greg supervising, the door between the “kitten palace” and the rest of the house was open for several hours with the child gate remaining shut. The pups were in the house and would go up to the gate to check things out.
We have a vocal crew and when the barking got too intense Greg would call the pups for a treat to diffuse the situation. It didn’t take long for Bea and Bess to go do something else, while Scruffy quietly stayed watching.
At one point Graham, the more outgoing kitten actually slipped through the one open bar in the gate and stood nose to nose with Scruffy in the living room. Neither quite knew how to react but after a few seconds Scruffy nosed Graham, Graham hissed then scooted back into the Kitten Palace.
We are keeping close watch on how everyone is reacting to each other to make sure it doesn’t get overwhelming. Scruffy sleeping beside the open door and the kittens relaxed and snuggling on the other side of the door is proof that we are indeed making progress. Oh and Gus Gus found his purr! 💕
Good progress!!
Sloppy kisses,
Delilah
Hoping Scruffy and the kittens become best friends!
Good for you and Greg for having the patience to allow them the time and space both kits and pups need.
